Family Services of Greater Waterbury’s mission is to strengthen lives and inspire hope through quality services, community collaboration and social advocacy.  Founded in 1909, FSGW is a well-established and highly-regarded private, nonprofit, multi-service agency offering a range of social services involving behavioral health, employment support, and children’s programs.  FSGW strives to strengthen and support families and individuals of all ages and at all stages of life regardless of their social or economic resources.

In addition to its well-respected behavioral health services, Family Services also has a wide range of supportive services that compliment its therapeutic work with families affected by domestic violence.  These include in-home services, case management and employment assistance, as well as childcare services for high-risk families.

  • Therapeutic Child Care for children ages 6 weeks through 5 years who are referred by DCF due to abuse and neglect
  • Counseling and psychiatric services for children, adults and families as well as a Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy program for children and youth.
  • In-home counseling and assessment services to individuals referred by the Visiting Nurses Association.
  • Intensive Family Violence Services including in-home visits concentrating on assessment, safety planning, batterer interventions and advocacy.
  • Self-sufficiency services to help individuals and families improve their employability, overcome barriers and achieve independence from cash benefits. 
  • A Military Support program providing services to service men and women and their families.
  • Parent Education Program for divorcing parents and “Focus On Kids” mediation designed for high conflict parents. 
  • Employee and Student Assistance programs.
  • Support groups for Foster and Adoptive Parents.
  • School based early intervention and prevention services.
