Jewish Family Services of Greater Hartford

Jewish Family Services, started in 1912, is a non-sectarian, fully licensed and accredited social service agency and outpatient mental health clinic. Our lifetime range of programs, delivered by a skillful and qualified staff includes: Family Counseling, Benet A. Rothstein Child Services, Counseling for Persons with Special Needs, Older Adult Services, Holocaust Survivors Services, JFS Care at Home, Geriatric Care Management, Bi-lingual Counseling for Russian families, a Kosher Food Pantry, and Employment Transition Services. We also have an adult and child psychiatrist on staff. 

 All JFS programs and services are available to the Greater Hartford community on a non-discriminatory basis, regardless of race, religion, or sexual orientation.  Most insurance is accepted and no one is turned away from our counseling programs because of inability to pay.

JFS can help with:

  • individual, couple and family counseling for children and adults
  • counseling related to specific areas of family crises such as: parent-child relationships, teen/adolescent issues, stress management, grief and bereavement, divorce, trauma, domestic violence, abuse/neglect and eating disorders
  • older adult services including counseling for depression and anxiety, grief, bereavement and loss, marital issues, relationships with adult children, dealing with changing expectations, coping with disabilities, care-giving, transition to retirement and psychiatric consultation,   Geriatric Care management, and JFS Care at Home
  • caregiver and sandwich generation services such as assistance with case management, counseling and workshops
  • programs for persons with developmental disabilities and chronic needs including counseling and coordination of services for persons with Intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, hearing impairment, attention deficit disorder and chronic mental illness
  • regular workshops and programs addressing community needs such as parenting, caregivers, teens and divorce, adoption, interfaith issues, job search techniques, sensitivity training and bereavement
