Newtown Youth and Family Services (NYFS) is dedicated to helping children and families achieve their highest potential.
This dynamic nonprofit agency combines clinical services and positive youth development programs to provide a continuum of care to residents of Western Connecticut. For nearly 30 years, NYFS has offered specialized programs and services to individuals of all ages.
NYFS is licensed by the Department of Children & Families as an Outpatient Psychiatric Clinic for Children and by the Department of Public Health as a Psychiatric Outpatient Clinic for Adults and as a Facility for the Care or Treatment of Substance Abusive or Dependent Persons. NYFS is accredited by the Council on Accreditation and the designated Youth Service Bureau for the Town of Newtown, CT.

Therapists at NYFS provide individual, group, couples and family therapy to children and adults. Outpatient counseling services are delivered by providers with strong credentials and clinical expertise in child, adolescent and adult behavioral health and substance abuse treatment. This team of professionals is dedicated to helping each individual identify, adapt and effectively deal with difficult times. Treatment is tailored to individual needs, and NYFS serves clients with a wide variety of concerns including, but not limited to, childrens’ behavioral problems, parenting concerns, anxiety, depression, anger, family or couples relationship problems, bereavement, stress, divorce, and substance abuse.
Positive Asset Development Programs help children and families acquire the building blocks necessary for success. These programs adapt to the changing needs and diversity of the service population. Currently, NYFS provides support groups for children with a sibling with a disability and children whose families are going through divorce, Women Empowering Women group, Circle of Parents®, Newtown Youth Creating AIDS Awareness for Peers (NYCAAP), Youth Advisory Board, Peer Mentoring, Job Bank, Homework Club and underage drinking prevention initiatives.
NYFS programs are continually assessed through a Performance Quality Improvement process, including measuring client satisfaction and change in functioning or symptoms. Monitoring the effectiveness of treatment and service delivery enables NYFS to continually meet the needs of the clients we serve.
