Oak Hill programs enrich lives. It all starts at the core of our mission – enhancing independence and quality of life for people with disabilities, including visual impairments, by setting the standard in providing innovative solutions, program excellence, services and advocacy. Oak Hill is the largest nonprofit private provider of services for people with disabilities in Connecticut, operating programs in over 50 Connecticut towns for people from birth to over 90 years of age. Known and respected in its field for high quality, innovative programs, Oak Hill meets the diverse and changing needs of people with disabilities through the following programs and services: community based housing, education and employment; assistive technology; healthy relationships; early intervention; arts and recreation.
Oak Hill Programs and Services:
A state-of-the-art assistive technology demonstration and equipment restoration center that brings people with temporary or permanent disabilities, their families and the professionals who work with them together with equipment and services they need to live, learn, and work. Locations are in Hartford, Stratford and Willimantic, Connecticut.
Individuals with low vision and blindness, Oak Hill provides independent living opportunities and supports in Greater Hartford as well as training and employment opportunities.
Therapeutic and educational programs that promote safe and healthy relationships; breast health education for people with developmental disabilities and other physical, social and emotional conditions and the professionals who work with them.
Early intervention program designed to identify and treat delays in development and health related needs that appear in the first three years of life, while supporting the family unit. Oak Hill is a recognized provider by the State of Connecticut Department of Developmental Services.
Provides work and volunteer options for adults with developmental and physical disabilities to increase their level of independence and enhance self-esteem.
Provides community housing throughout Connecticut for children and adults with developmental, intellectual and physical disabilities. Individual programs for residents are designed and monitored by a team comprised of clinicians, healthcare professionals, parents and guardians and include specialized adaptive equipment, community integration and continuity of learning from home to work or school.
Residential summer camp located in Waterford, Connecticut. The camp serves children and adults with developmental, intellectual and physical disabilities as well as Oak Hill alumni, and is designed to meet the needs of individuals through activities that are creative, adventurous and fun. As well, week long summer program offerings for youth with low vision and blindness and teen girls with autism spectrum disorders.
Provides comprehensive and on-going education and training for Oak Hill staff and enables professionals in the community working with people with disabilities to earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs). Oak Hill provides a varied curriculum in assistive technology demonstrations and training workshops; a new curriculum targeting youth with disabilities called Positive Choices is also available for general sale.
