Recognized at ceremony held at State Capitol in Hartford
Hartford - From transitioning schools to healthier green cleaning products and banning harmful chemicals from children’s products to working to preserve funding for family resource centers and ringing a Salvation Army bell on cold winter mornings to earn donations for area charities, state Senator Bob Duff (D-Norwalk) has served as a stalwart supporter for Connecticut children and families during his time in the Connecticut General Assembly.
At a ceremony held at the State Capitol in Hartford this evening, the Connecticut Council of Family Service Agencies recognized Senator Duff for his commitment to with its Family Legislator of the Year Award.
“As a legislator and as a parent, I understand the difficulties that Connecticut families face and, during my time in the legislature, I’ve tried to address come of the issues that I believe have a direct impact in their lives,” said Senator Duff. “I’m honored and humbled to accept this award today and, even as the state continues to face tough times, I will continue to work for those reforms and priorities that truly make a difference in the lives of families in Connecticut.”
“Bob clearly never loses sight of the importance of responding to the needs of his constituents,” said Rob Cashel, executive director of the Family and Children’s Agency in Norwalk, who nominated Senator Duff for the Family Legislator of the Year recognition. “No issue is ever too small, as Bob is always there to listen and effectively respond to the needs of the people he represents and to engage nonprofits in helping to find solutions.”
For 23 years, the council has recognized one member of the General Assembly for consistently responding to the ever-changing needs of families in Connecticut,” said Daniel O’Connell, president and CEO of the Connecticut Council of Family Service Agencies. “Today, it is our honor to recognize Senator Duff for this award. He is a true champion for the families of Connecticut.”
Past Family Legislators of the Year award recipients include Representative Lawrence Cafero (2006), Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (2005), former state Senator Robert Genuario (1996) and Congressman John Larson (1989).
The Connecticut Council of Family Service Agencies is a statewide network of 17 independent, nonprofit, family service agencies that deliver services to over 150,000 families annually from more than 100 locations throughout Connecticut. The council works to strengthen Connecticut’s diverse individuals and families and the communities where they live.
